FULL VIEW OF ADVENTURE AND HISTORY

National Archaeological Park Takali’k Ab’aj

Our tour begins in the reception area of the hotel, passing through three farms and plantations were we have different crops. We continue the tour through the National Archaeological Park called Takalik Ab’aj, which means, “standing rock” in the native Guatemalan language K’iche. The ancient pre-hispanic city is located on the coast of the country, at a place called El Asintal, which is located in Retalhuleu 199.5 km away from Guatemala City also 600 meters above sea level.

The city was active during the middle and late pre-classic periods; 800 years BC to 200 AD, has an area of 650 hectares (6.5 km2) seated on nine natural terraces, with 86 edifications, more than 230 sculptures between monuments, trails and carved altars showing the convergence of four civilizations: Maya, Olmeca, Barrigon and local. This is one of the characteristics that make it unique and interesting for lovers of culture. Today it is listed as a ceremonial site of great importance for the Mayan people, who come to seek blessings for their crops, family and important dates. Approximate tour time: two to three hours.
